RoHS affects any company importing goods containing electrical components into the European Union. RoHS is a set of EU regulations that implements EU Directive 2002/95 that restricts the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. This directive bans placing on the EU market, any product having an electrical/electronic component containing more than thresholds set for lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). RoHS is closely linked to the WEEE Directive (The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive), which sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods.
